There is a new Super Mario game that will be announced for 2023 that this reprint ties into.The original Super Mario amiibo line (but so far only Bowser) may be getting reprints to tie into the Mario Movie.The original Splatoon amiibo, which had been out of print for years, were given a reprint to tie into the new game, and the amiibo got store listings at major retailers a few weeks before the reprint was made official.

We last saw this with the release of Splatoon 3.
